BTA Architecture Exhibition at the Fairmont Pacific Rim
On view every day now through late December is a creative display of our firm’s building designs, installed on the second floor lobby of the Fairmont Pacific Rim. The exhibition consists of architectural scale models, drawings and photographs of eleven BTA buildings from around the world, set into a curving range of “lenticular” back-lit display cases.
Each of these triangular lenticular display facets is home to a different building, organized around the themes of “Light” “Sound” “Time” and “Memory.” The “Light” section shows how daylight is integrated and celebrated at Vancouver’s Sunset Community Centre and the Surrey City Centre Library and Guildford Pool, both in Surrey. The “Sound” section includes music halls and theatres such as UBC’s landmark Chan Centre, the Arena Stage complex in Washington D.C. and the stunning Xiqu Centre, which opens on the Kowloon waterfront in 2019. “Time” showcases education buildings such as Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, the just-opened-to-acclaim Allard Hall for MacEwan University in Edmonton and the Sustainable Engineering building for SFU Surrey. More proof of BTA’s transformation of Surrey is the SFU Central City campus which builds over a shopping mall, and the notion of “Memory” is further demonstrated in the respect for heritage buildings in our Booth Business School Hong Kong campus for the University of Chicago.
The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public anytime. The Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel is on the Vancouver waterfront opposite the trade and convention centre.
