Mitchell Art Gallery
Located within Allard Hall, designed by Revery Architecture, MacEwan University’s new Centre for Arts and Culture, integrates academic programming with galleries and theatres to create a visually compelling and spirited gateway to the University’s Campus in downtown Edmonton.
Tucked away but directly connected to the Macewan’s grand atrium, the Mitchell Art Gallery is a public institution committed to a diversified curatorial practice, allowing exhibitions and events to cross-pollinate. The space, and the building itself, have become an open field of possibilities and choices, where the community continually reinvents the conditions of cultural exchange.
The John and Maggie Mitchell Art Gallery is a professional public art gallery dedicated to engaging timely conversations and community through contemporary art.
The MAG is a public gallery committed to presenting art exhibitions, programs, and publications that feature diverse artistic and curatorial perspectives committed to critical discourses in contemporary art.
The gallery supports interdisciplinary, experiential learning for the public and for the university community. Located in the heart of downtown Edmonton in MacEwan University’s Allard Hall, John and Maggie Mitchell Art Gallery programming also serves the local community through emphasizing safe, collaborative and relevant opportunities for learning and visual literacy development.
Gallery initiatives reinforce the MacEwan University mandate through innovative approaches to program delivery and community development. The gallery supports opportunities for students to develop academic, practical and leadership skills to support their futures as artists, cultural workers, and lifelong critical thinkers.
